Church Reform

Catholic, Protestants, Lutheran the issues; reading the bible; individual salvation how to achieve that salvation, and who is worthy of that salvation; the sacraments; penance. From a society united by the rule of the pope and the church. To a society who changes with the ever changing rule of the kings and monarchy of the time, and their desired belief system. The devastation and wars caused through out Europe from switching from one ruler to another based on their religious prevalence.

Reading this section gives me a greater appreciation to our Fore-Father for their wisdom in writing the US Constitution; division between church and state, the freedom of Religion.

I think you're right. I can't imagine living in a country where the guys in the suits at the White House or any other house of government were telling us who to worship and what to believe in. Whether a person is extremly religious and devout in their beliefs or if they aren't sure anything really exists beyond our immediate world is OK here in the US. Of course there will always be thouse who staunchly disagree with people not being religious, but that's the beauty of where we live, we get that choice and no one else.

In my US history class last semester my professor talked about how US citzens over all are more religious than Europeans. In our country being able to choose your beliefs makes a difference. How can a person be truly religious if you are being forced to be religious. A foundametal principle in may churchs is free agency. There is something powerful about using free agency to do good and be good.

I have to jump on the band wagon. To have your beliefs dictated to you and then changing constantly must have left one feeling chaotic. I say that because that's how I felt just reading about it. You get the feeling of not knowing whether you're coming or going. Now who's in charge today? What does he say I'm suppose to believe it? It makes you wonder if things changed so quickly because those fighting we're really fighting for anything, but rather just doing what they were told.

I too count my blessings to live in a country where religious freedom is still upheld. Where I have the right to worship who, where and what I deem fit, and gladly allow other the same so that very freedom can be preserved.
